We began our Manila Philippine Mission Oct. 16, 2006 at the Provo MTC. We spent a rigorous week there and on Mon. morning we flew from the Salt Lake International airport to Las Angelos then to Taipai and onto Manila. We arrived in Maila Wed. about noon. We were met there by our Angel,Elder Ramos and our 2ns Angel Elder Smith. After security and all the hastle their bright smiling faces truly looked like they were sent to us straight from heaven!
We were taken on a very startling ride through the Manil traffic system. (They mostly make 5-6 lanes out of 3!) It was more than bumper cars and derby cars combined. It is a very unique way of travel!
We were met at the Mission Home by Pres. & Sis. LeSueur who were delightful hosts! We ate and visited with them that evening and then went to bed about 12:00 A.M. and rose at 5:30 A.M. to get ready for the day, eat breakfast and go to get our Philippine driver's license and return for dinner with the 2 Sr. couples -the Markles and the Walburgers (who were unable to come). We had to fly out very erly the next morning to Palwan Island where we wpuld be serving.
The driver's license experience was a joke and a nightmare! The dinner with the Markles was delightful. Sis. Markle and LeSuer took me on a quick late evening shopping spree to get a purse and a few toiletries and grocery items I would not be able to get on Palawan Island. They were both wondeful and very accomodating.
We had to be at the airport by 6;30 A.M. The LeSueurs' were with because it was Zone Conference and it would be our fist there. This was great timing. We were met at the airport by Pres. & Sis. Warne who became very dear friends and truly introduced us to Palawan Island and made sure we were comfortable and well-cared for in Puerto before they left to Narra which was more remote and about 2 hours away. They came into Puerto at least every work for supplies and for Pres. to do interviews. We got to eat with them and go other places with them so became very close. They were both such pleasant, wonderful people!
We became very close to our Elders on Palawan Island especially in our Zone in Puerto. They were such wonderful missionaries who became our sons! They really helped us adjust and get our mission to a great start. They took us on teaching appointments with them and unvolved us in all Zone activities. We really enjoyed them. Most were with us several transfers so we got to know them well. They were also very amazing in their obedience and sustaining of the President and mission rules. They were very awesome in faith and commitment as well.
The people there were so teachable, humble and so accepting and eager to learn. They really involved us in speaking assignments and in training. They also involved us in their various activities. They sang the hymns with all their hearts and loved music. They also take every opportunity they can to get their picture taken!
Here are pics of our Palawan experience. Hope you enjoy!
